The only cardio-thoracic surgeon in the city of Zanesville has decided to leave the Genesis Helathcare System. As early as March, the hopsital which performed their first open heart surgery back in October of 2000, will not have a heart surgeon located in the city. Dr. Brian McDonald who has been the only thoracic surgeon in Zanesville for a little over two years, cited that his reason for leaving is because it is time for a change. Although there will not be a surgeon in Zanesville until a replacement is found, Tom Seiber President and CEO is confident that quality care in the cardiac program will go on. Since McDonald's announcement, the health system has decided to recruit 2 cardio-thoracic surgeons. In the interim, surgeons from the Cardiovascular Thoracic Group in Columbus will perform all open heart procedures.
