Not only did the salt crews at ODOT have a heavy-duty job this morning but so did local law enforcement officials. Numerous calls came in from motorists needing help getting vehicles out of ditches and off the side of the roads. Thankfully the accident toll was down despite the circumstances traveling wise. The State Patrol handled only two car accidents involving damage that were called in, and the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office took care of six. Local law enforcement officers are advising motorists to be cautious and alert when driving in harsh conditions. Slow down, give yourself extra space between your vehicle and the one in front of you, be a little more aware of your surroundings and the drivers around you. Drive defensively, and stay calm at all times, do not panic if your vehicle begins sliding or skidding. Try to avoid hard pressure on the brakes and simply ride it out if possible. Staying at home is best and recommended, however if you must travel then do so slowly and with caution.
