It was a star studded finish for one area student at the Zanesville City Schools' annual district spelling bee. Held at the Zanesville Board of Education in the downtown area, 16 students had a chance to spell their way to victory. But in the end, it was 12-year old Derrick McPeak of Grover Cleveland Middle School who spelled the word "celestial" to shine above the rest. Along with the Zanesville City Schools, St. Nicholas, St. Thomas and the Muskingum Christian Academy participated in the annual spelling bee. This is an event that the district believes is very beneficial to area students. The second and third place winners were Allison Moore fron St. Nicholas and Emily Masterson from St. Thomas. Derrick will go on to compete in the Ohio state competition at the end of March.
