The move is on again to form a union at the Longaberger plants in Frazeysburg. The United Steelworkers Of America is holding an organizational meeting Sunday Feburary 10th. The union says workers at the basket-making company are forming the Longaberger Employees' Alliance. The group has the stated aim of protecting and improving conditions on the job at Longaberger in a positive, efficient and effective manner. 13-year employee Ron Miracle Jr., a weaver at the company, says they are forming a local union to have an organization to deal on an equal basis with Longaberger Management. 10-year employee, Merle Edward says he's a dedicated employee, but feels that the company is making too many changes with no real say-so in the decision from the employees. Longaberger officials issued a statement reacting to the union issue. The company says it prides itself on offering one of the most competitive benefits packages among American businesses. Since they were founded in 1973, Longaberger says it has offered an environment in which employees are appreciated and involved in the decision making process. The company added, in the past efforts have been made to unionize at Longaberger and in each case employees rejected the effort. The meeting will be held Sunday February 10th at 2 o'clock at the Zanesville-Muskingum County Welcome Center.
