This is reading awareness week and for some students it is a daily challenge and struggle to learn how to read. At Dillon Elementary School today, a special speaker was there who knows all too well about the daily struggles in life.
Adam Burkhart spoke about his heart transplant in 2000, carrying the Olympic torch this year and organ donor-ship. The students were most impressed with Adam’s determination to overcome his illness and were interested in his role in the Olympic games. Adam carried the Olympic torch on January 2nd this year and was one of 11,500 in the country to participate in the torch carrying. Adam was nominated by his uncle to carry the torch in Cleveland.
