State inspectors were at the Zanesville City Jail Wednesday to try and help solve the supervisory staffing problems. Chief Eric Lambes, the safety director, jail administrator and union representatives met with two members of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The city voluntarily contacted the department to look over their proposed solution and offer suggestions. The jail’s current practice of putting a senior corrections officer in charge is okay under the standards, but the department recommends that the city go farther then that. The department also explained that a letter that was sent to the jail last year was not a violation. The department will continue to work with the jail, they are conducting a manpower study to look at the current staffing. In April, the department will return to look over the data of the study and make some recommendations.
