Every year thousands of people nationwide, both motorists and highway workers are injured or killed in construction zone crashes. To do their part in ensuring roadway safety, the Ohio Department of Transportation is kicking off the Work Safety Zone Awareness Week. Last year in District Five, 53 people were injured in work zone accidents, one person died. Statewide there were over two thousand injuries and more than 20 deaths. ODOT would like to remind motorists to slow down through the work zones, be aware of what’s going on around you, obey signs, flaggers and pay attention. Last year ODOT spent 30 million dollars to reduce work zone congestion and prevent injuries and accidents.
