Genesis has become the first hospital in Southeast Ohio that can meet the needs of many high-risk moms and premature newborns. As of April 1st, Genesis has obtained a level two designation from the Ohio Department of Health. Some babies and new moms might still go to Columbus, but once they’re treated they will return. Preparation for level two designations includes the merging of the ob and newborn services to one hospital, major remodeling, and staff training. Level two facilities provide care for selected high-rise obstetric patients in addition to newborns who need developmental follow-up.
