At council tonight, the City of Zanesville discussed a variety of major issues that will affect the city and its surrounding areas. Main topics tonight were the 146- connector road project, the self-contained breathing units for the local fire division and the portable restroom contract. The portable restroom issue, in its second reading had the vote split down the middle. That issue will brought back for a third reading where members will take a closer look at their options. Another major issue, the 146, 60 road connector design was somewhat under fire in the meeting, as concerns were raised about costs and the design proposal funding.
The project as a whole could cost anywhere from five point two million up to six point seven million dollars, with about 800,000 dollars wrapped up in the design itself by the time the project is ready to go to construction. Sims estimates that approval of the final design should come from the state by early June.
