Muskingum County is working with the Social Security Administartion to cut down on scams. Across the state, there are cases of people who receive their monthly social security check, but then report to the social security office they did not receive it. The office then issues another check and people are then cashing both.
According to Muskingum County Prosecutor, Mike Haddox, locally, 48-year-old Linda McClain of Zanesville pleaded guilty to this theft by deception in court this week. As part of sentencing, Haddox says the county is going to require those convicted, to open a bank account so in the future, their checks can be automatically deposited.
