Literally thousands of people will be in downtown Zanesville this weekend for the annual Gus Macker basketball tournament and the Zanesville Police Department will be there to monitor the event. There will be six officers patrolling the tournament while it is going on as well as two at night when the event is closed. Officers say that they wish to be more visible this year and that they will be working in two-man teams. Even with the extra police patrolling the area, traffic flow and parking may still be an issue. The Street Department will be putting up baricades and extra signage directing motorists. The police department is asking people to avoid downtown after five o'clock on Friday evening. There will be 500 to 600 teams trying to get registered on Main Street. The streets that will be closed include Main Street from Fifth to Seventh, Fifth Street from Shinnick to South, Sixth Street from Market to South and Market from Sixth to Fourth.
