Authorities say a former Newark businessman was the leader of a group of 12 people involved in at least four house fires in Licking and Franklin counties between November 1998 and September 2000. Phillip Lee Godbolt was convicted last week in Licking county common pleas court after pleading no contest to 11 counts of arson, insurance fraud and racketeering related to the fires. He awaits sentencing. He has been in prison since 2000 on an unrelated count of drug trafficking.
