Fairfield county sheriff Dave Phalen says an electric company worker died Wednesday afternoon after he came into contact with a live power line. Wayne R. Lane, of Malta, was transferring electric lines from one utility pole to another when he was electrocuted. The sheriff's department does not know his age. Lane was working for New River Electric Corporation of Virginia at a highway interchange construction zone in Violet township, southeast of Columbus.
Witnesses tried to free him from the lines by lowering the bucket of his work truck. The witnesses and medics could not revive him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
