July 3rd through the 7th is the kick-off event of “The Designate A Driver” Safety Program. It’s a joint effort of the State Highway Patrol, Ohioans For Responsible Drinking, BP Stations, and the Ohio Department of Public Safety Administration.
These organizations will be passing out free coffee mugs to travelers who would like to contribute to the program for a safe Independence Day weekend. Participating BP Stations will fill the mug up with coffee for free during this period.
Lt. Barry Donley of the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol says that this year 80 percent of the local patrol will be out participating in sobriety checkpoints. Last year, “The Designated Driver” Safety Program significantly contributed to safest summer holiday weekend travel period in the past decade on Ohio roadways.
