What first sounded like a car crash to one Zanesville resident, actually turned out to be a transformer bursting into flames. Late this afternoon, Lisa Adkins who lives at the intersection of McConnell Avenue and Norwood Boulevard, was working in her garden when she heard a loud noise. When she turned around, Lisa never expected to see a transformer going up in flames. To contain what Lisa described as bright fireworks, she called 911 and the Zanesville Fire Department, Columbia Gas, and American Electric Power was dispatched to the scene. Since residents from Linden Avenue up to Maple Avenue were without power, AEP began repairs immediately. At this point in time, AEP does not know what caused the fire but will continue to investigate after the necessary repairs are completed.
