A 10-year-old child is being hailed as a hero today after alerting his family about a fire in their home. The Muskingum county sheriff's department says it happened in Newton township. It happened at 10 Columbia drive, off of Old Town road. The home was occupied by Mark Stotts and his family. Dispatchers says the fire call came in just after four this morning. The family was asleep at the time of the blaze and neighbors say the family's 10-year-old boy woke up the family and allowed everyone to escape. The fire apparenlty started in the wall where a window air conditioner was operating. Lisa Stotts suffered burns on her legs and feet. No other injuries were reported. The Muskingum Valley Red Cross is helping the family with clothing and groceries. No official cause of the fire has been announced.
