Twelve full and part-time workers and 19 seasonal employees are out of a job, as the Zanesville State Tree Nursery becomes the latest victim of state budget cuts. In a phone interview with ODNR spokesman, Jim Lynch, he said because of the state budget crisis, the department is having to re-organize and part of that reorganization means closing the nursery. He also says the demand for seedlings has decreased and over the last several years there has been a monetary loss. Lynch says now, the department feels it can handle all of the state's seedling production out of the nursery in Marietta. ODNR chose the Marietta nursery over the Zanesville one because of better growing conditions and the opportunity to expand. The closing affects six, full-time and six part-time workers.
