Hundreds of needy children will benefit from a new program created by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 29 in downtown Zanesville. The ladies of the auxiliary designed a campaign to gather school supplies for local children who need them. Auxiliary members say they're aware other programs exist, but admit there can never be too many programs that benefit the nearly 700 needy children in the Zanesville City School District. Parents interested in obtaining supplies should call the school district central office. Donors can drop off items at the American Legion Post at 27 South Third Street or can contact auxiliary president Shelley Riggs at 454-2663.
