The two Ohioans state health officials say could have West Nile are doing much better. The 76-year-old Cuyahoga county woman has been upgraded to fair condition at Southwest General hospital, and the 26-year-old Columbus man also possibly with the virus has already been sent home from the hospital.
The Health Department sent blood tests to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Colorado for confirmation that the two patients do in fact have the disease. Those results are expected as early as tomorrow.
The Center for Disease Control says 156 people have been infected this year in eight states and the District of Columbia. The only confirmed cases in Ohio thus far, however, are in animals.
