Governor Bob Taft has signed an executive order creating a statewide alert system to thwart child abductions. Taft's order requires the state's Amber Alert system to be in place by January. Taft says the statewide system will help broadcast information quickly about an abduction in the first few hours after a child is taken. He introduced the statewide alert system today along with Misty Baker, whose daughter Erica disappeared three years ago from the Dayton suburb of Kettering. At least two ohio communities and at least 14 other state have similar alert systems. The Amber Alert system is named for a Taxas girl who was murdered in 1996.
