A Muskingum County Jury deliberated for five hours on Friday in a local civil case. A South Zanesville woman who sued McDonald’s restaurant in Zanesville, claims she was burned by hot coffee she was given instead of a diet coke she ordered back in July of 2000. 49-year old Rebecca Johnson’s attorney, Douglas Blue, estimated the coffee to be between 170 and 190 degrees. Johnson says she suffered second and thirds degree burns as a result. The lawsuit was filed against West M Corporation, the local franchise owned by Doug Fellers. Fellers’ attorney, Kevin Foley says Johnson is mistaken. She was served coffee in a coffee cup, and if it had been in a soft drink cup it would have melted the wax. A court bailiff says a confidential agreement was reached in Johnson’s favor. However the attorney’s gave no indication of whether Feller’s company was found negligent.
