Last year the second Tuesday of September was just like any other Tuesday at McKinley Elementary School until educators and students learned about the four tragedies that stunned America. Administrators say a year of sadness was enough and they chose to focus on American pride today, instead of immense loss on American soil. Instead of a morbid daze, several well-known community members were greeted by a red, white and blue sea of young patriots who celebrated patriotism through singing national hymns and pledging their allegiance to the flag. As the community members meandered around the school, they taught students about their roles in the community and encouraged students to celebrate patriotism on such a dismal day.
