The recent rash of robberies, drug busts, and shootings all have one thing in common. They were all somehow related to drugs and alcohol. We've all heard the saying, "if you do the crime, you do the time." Well come November 5th that may not be the case. State Issue One requires drug treatment, not jail time, for first and second time drug offenders. It excludes offenders caught dealing drugs or without a violent crime history. That issue is up for voters next month. Area law enforcement and health agencies are against the issue. They say rehabilitation is no punishment for some offenders, and that a proposed 38-million dollars alloted to treat drug offenders will not be enough funding.
