The 125 session of the Ohio legislature convened this afternoon with 21 new representatives and six new senators taking their oaths. Today’s session was more pomp than circumstance, with leaders giving speeches and the new members getting to know those coming back for another term. The real work begins later this month when Governor Taft introduces his budget for the next two years. Taft and legislative leaders agree there will be a deficit in the budget, but few agree on its size. Estimates run from just over one billion dollars to almost four billion dollars. Lawmakers also are expected to tackle school funding, tax reform, job creation and other issues.
