A Columbus eye surgeon who admitted performing laser surgery while drunk has been suspended by the state medical board. Doctor Vikas Jain also admitted in a consent agreement he signed that he pleaded guilty to a drunk driving charge in June of 2000. The consent decree also discloses that Jain, of the Boomberg Eye Center with offices in Newark and Columbus, was kicked off an airliner in August of 2001 because of drunkenness and disruptive behavior. Under the consent agreement, he has to suspend practice for 270 days and seek treatment for his alcohol addiction. He’s also being sued by three patients who claim he damaged their vision.
