All across the nation members of the National Guard are answering the call in support of security efforts that may lead to a possible war with Iraq. Today in Ohio, the 737th Maintenance Battalion, in Newark, answered that call. Local dignitaries, families, and friends, gathered at the Ohio State University Newark Campus for a send-off ceremony for the battalion which was mobilized earlier this week. For many of the soldiers, their deployment to Fort Knox, Kentucky will be the first time that they have been called to active duty. Also during the ceremony, the commanding officers of the battalion presented 5 soldiers with their new ranks. For newly promoted Private Emily Novak of Zanesville, this is one day that will be hard to forget. In less than a couple of hours of finishing basic training and returning home, she received word of the battallion's deployment. The 737th will be gone for at least 1-year.
