The Muskingum County sheriff’s office continues to investigate the county home. The focus of the investigation is on an employee at the facility. According to county home administrator, Rebecca Cooper, Marsha Shumate was placed on administrative leave February 11-th after Cooper discovered invoices for large sums of money. After speaking with the county commissioners the case was then turned over to the sheriff’s office for investigation. No charges have been filed in the case. Muskingum county sheriff Bob Stephenson says Shumate, her attorney and Cooper met with the Muskingum county commissioners and assistant prosecutor Bud Chess for a pre-disciplinary hearing. No word on what happened at the hearing. According to Cooper Shumate has worked at the county home for over 20 years and currently holds the position of budget officer.
