Riesbecks Pick-N-Save stores celebrate a Polish tradition with a tasty treat. Paczki (punch-key) are Polish pastries that are served up annually during Lent. The round, sugar coated, fruit filled baked goods were originally made for practical reasons. Now, they’re more of a last-minute binge of sweets before the 40-day sacrifice. John Chickery, Pick-N-Save bakery director, started the tradition in Ohio six years ago. He says preparation is the key in making the delicious product and that the tradition gets bigger every year. The pastries are so popular that in one day the store will make and sell around six hundred packages. Paczki are available at Riesbeck's Pick-N-Save every Friday during Lent.
