An accident involving two semis completely closed down the westbound lanes of Interstate 70 Thursday morning. The crash occured on I-70 about six miles west of Zanesville at around 5:00 a.m. According to ODOT's Public Information Officer Director Cindy Brown, a detour was set up to re-route traffic from I-70 to U-S 40 to state route 13 and back onto the interstate. I-70 was closed until about 10:45 a.m. According to a press release from the State Highway Patrol, a semi driven by 56-year-old Samuel Phillips of Lebanon, Pennsylvania rear-ended a second semi driven by 48-year-old Mark Ostrofsky of Whitehall, Pennsylvania. Phillips lost control of his semi after the crash. The vehicle overturned onto its side in the roadway. Phillips suffered minor injuries and was not transported. He was cited for failing to maintain an assured clear distance. No hazardous materials were involved.
