Governor Taft lowered Ohio's terror alert level from Orange to Yellow Thursday to correspond with President Bush's reduction of the National Alert Level. Taft also ordered the State Emergency Operations Center to be deactivated. A few stafferes have worked at the Center since the alert went to High earlier this month so state agencies could share informaton and respond to emergencies. Taft says Ohioans should remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to local authorities. During the alert, the Ohio State Highway Patrol increased its presence around all state buildings and around the state's largest cities. It also stepped up inspections of trucks transporting hazardous materials.
