Early Thursday morning a woman was beaten and robbed by a man who said he would give her a ride home...instead he attacked her. According to Detective Steve Welker with the Muskingum County Sheriff's Department, at 1:20 a.m. Thursday morning Victoria S. Clark of Zanesville agreed for a ride home from James Jamie Powell, also of Zanesville. Powell drove Clark from West Main Street to Coopermill Road. There he proceeded to beat and rob Clark of approximately $30 and some jewelry. Detective Welker said Powell then dropped Clark off...she went to the nearest house and the family called the authorities. Clark was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with head and facial injuries...she has since been released. Thursday afternoon Powell was in cout and arraigned on one count robbery and one count theft. Powell is still in jail. A grand jury will hear his case next Wednesday.
