An arguement over the custody of two girls ends with the shooting of a Licking County man. According to Captain Rod Mitchell of the Licking County Sheriff's Office, 25-year-old Lanny Ellis of Newark, is accused of shooting his estranged wife's boyfriend 19-year-old Dustin S. Edwards, also of Newark, in the leg with a handgun. The incident occured around 6:30 Thursday evening in the driveway of Ellis' home on Hickman Road. Edwards showed up with Ellis' wife Samantha to drop off the estranged couple's two daughters for a court-mandated visit. Detectives say that an arguement about custody of the two girls earlier that day is what lead to the shooting. Edwards was treated and released from Licking Memorial Hospital. As for Ellis...he is being charged with felonious assault which is a second degree felony.
