The Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department continues to look for solutions to jail overcrowding problems. In recent months, the county has spent thousands of dollars housing inmates in other counties; now the county is considering an additional jail facility that will house work release, non-violent inmates. The county is looking at three locations for the project. County commissioners are considering property owned by Danny James with James and Sons on Old Adamsville Road, an old motorcycle shop on Old Wheeling Road and the old Maysville School.
Commissioner Ed Kenily says the money for the Sheriff’s move will be borrowed and will cost about one million dollars. The new location will also house all Muskingum County sheriff’s employees.
