Alcohol and excessive speed are considered factors in a one vehicle accident Saturday afternoon. At 4:15 p.m. 38-year-old James Bates of Zanesville was traveling eastbound on Grantcliff Road when he lost control of his Ford pickup truck. The vehicle went off the right side of the road. Bates overcorrected and went off the left side of the road, striking a tree and an embankment before turning the car on its top. According to Trooper Troy Hale with the Zanesville State Highway Patrol, Bates then attempted to flee the accident scene. Zanesville Police and Sheriff's deputies apprehended the suspect, who has been cited with a DUI and failure to control his vehicle. Bates was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital for minor injuries. He has been released, and awaits a court appearance on Wednesday, April 2nd.
