The Stone Academy is doing its best to keep history alive in our area. The Pioneer and Historical Society of Muskingum County along with O.U.Z’s culture committee are celebrating their 27th annual “People, Places, and Past” lecture series. To keep in mind Ohio’s bicentennial, officials have chosen to bring back the Civil War era for the series, calling it “Soldiers On Ohio Soil.” One of the guest speakers, Russell Booth of Cambridge, discussed Captain John Morgan and his link to Southeastern Ohio during the Civil War. Booth has presented lectures about American history for over forty years and says he hopes everyone who attends has fun and learns something new. Another lecture is also scheduled for this month. Patricia Medart, a Chillicothe resident, will be the speaker and will talk about Ohio’s soldiers in 1812 and the prisoners in their care. That lecture is set for next Sunday and is free and open to the public.
