Some bad economic news from Muskingum County’s largest employer. The Longaberger Company today announced that it’s laying off 461 employees at its manufacturing operations in Frazeysburg and Hartville. The Company says 430 jobs will be lost at the Frazeysburg plant and 31 jobs will be lost at the Hartville plant. The company also announced that it’s reassigning 80 to 90 employees within its quality performance specialist program. That includes workers who support the basket making process including runners, supplies, handles, lids and quality assurance. Director of Corporate
Communications Julie Moorehead, says like most companies throughout the United State, Longaberger has not been immune to the continuing economic downturn. Moorehead says the current economic situation has forced the company to make tough decisions that impact employees. The layoff takes effect on May 6th, 2003.
