The Zanesville Fire Department is investigating the cause of a fire in an abandoned home on Greenwood Avenue. Around one Friday afternoon fire crews responded to a house fire at 1041 Greenwood Avenue. According to Acting Assistant Fire Chief Robert Heinzman, the fire apparently started in a chair and couch in the basement of the home. A door leading to the basement was left open, leaving officials to believe that the fire had been deliberately set. The fire department is treating this as an arson investigation, and is continuing to gather information. Most of the homes in the Greenwood area are boarded up and slated for demolition early next week to make way for the Greenwood Revitalization Project.
