Ohio First Lady Hope Taft is to meet with the U.S. Surgeon General today in Washington to discuss underage drinking. Taft and three other first ladies are trying to get the government to consider underage drinking one of the nation’s top health priorities. The group wants Surgeon General Richard Carmona to launch a public awareness campaign on underage drinking, similar to efforts in the past to reduce smoking. A Columbia University study released this year says underage drinkers account for nearly 20 percent of the alcohol consumed in the United States each year.
