The Ohio Senate has approved a bill making it easier to stop telemarketers’ calls. The Senate voted 32 to 1 today to approve the bill which would permit Ohioans who register their phone numbers on a “do not call” list to sue companies who continue to call them. Senator Lynn Wachtmann, a Napoleon republican, voted against the legislation, calling it bad for small businesses and consumers. Senate President Doug White and Attorney General Jim Petro both want the bill changed in the Ohio house to prohibit class-action lawsuits. White says he supports the right of individuals to sue. But he’s concerned about attorneys filing group actions.
