Over three hundred people gathered at the Zane Landing Park in Zanesville for the “American Heart Walk.” This year, 750,000 walkers will participate in over 600 events across the country, raising funds to save lives from our country’s greatest killers: heart disease and stroke. In fact the statistics show that heart disease is the number one leading cause of death in our nation and strokes are the number three cause of death. Unfortunately, those statistics hold true to our area as well. Close to 38-percent of the population in Muskingum County die from cardiovascular diseases and strokes. The money that was raised from today’s event will go directly towards programs, which help raise awareness throughout the nation. Organizers of the event say they were able to raise fifty thousand dollars today.
