Starting Monday if you’re not wearing a seatbelt, you’re going to pay. Nationally and locally, law enforcement officials are cracking down on drivers who don’t buckle up. The local “What’s Holding You Back?” campaign runs in conjunctions with the national “Click It Or Ticket” program. According to Lt. Barry Donley with the Zanesville Post of the State Highway Patrol, the campaigns start Monday and end June 1st. This is the peak summer travel times, when driving can be dangerous. Focused primarily on making the road safer, the two programs work to encourage drivers and passengers to follow the 1986 Seat Belt Law. So far in 2003, Muskingum County has experienced six fatal accidents, three of them because the victims were not wearing their seatbelts.
