Ohio’s two republican senators voted today to approve a bill that cuts taxes by 330 billion dollars and gives troubled states 20 billion dollars in aide. The republican-led Senate approved the measure by a narrow 51-50 vote with vice president Dick Cheney casting the deciding vote. Senator George Voinovich’s vote was the crucial 50th vote republicans needed to pass the bill. Voinovich has been in a standoff with the White House over the proposed tax cut since he said that he wouldn’t support a bill that was bigger than 350 billion dollars. President Bush originally wanted more than double that amount.
