Zanesville police have a man in custody and have charged him with rape, kidnapping and felonious assault. Saturday morning, May 24th, police received a call that a woman had been raped in the 900 block of West Main Street. Within one-half hour, police had a suspect in custody. According to Detective Ric Roush with the Zanesville Police Department, the suspect is 34-year-old Clay Martin of Zanesville. Martin is currently being held in the Zanesville City Jail, awaiting a Grand Jury hearing on Wednesday. Police spoke with Muskingum County Prosecutor Mike Haddox to determine the charges. Martin is charged with one count of rape, one count of kidnapping and one count of felonious assault. According to Roush, the victim is a 34-year-old Zanesville resident. She had left an establishment on Saturday night and was approached by Martin. She suffered cuts and bruises to her face, back, abdomen, and arms. The victim has since been treated for her injuries and released from Bethesda Hospital.
