The Senate president says spending the Senate version of the two-year state budget will be slightly higher than in plans Governor Taft and the House put forth. Senate president Doug White would not detail just how much more expensive the plan is compared with the record 49.2 billion dollar plan Taft had wanted and the 48.5 billion dollar budget the House passed. The Senate version will be introduced later today in the Senate finance committee. Hearings will resume tomorrow and a vote by the full senate is expected next week. The legislature must approve the bill by June 30th. The Senate plan includes a temporary sales tax increase of one cent on the dollar for the next two years.
