Maysville schools closed for the summer in an unusual way. After an hour of lock down at both schools, students were released for vacation. It was a safety procedure that officials felt was necessary after a gun was discharged in a neighboring area about a half a mile from the schools. The sheriff’s department was called to the scene. No one was injured. According to the sheriff’s department suspect Justin Riley, a 17-year old runaway from the Avondale Youth Center, fled the scene. While officers continued their search, school officials took the proper precautions to ensure the students safety. Authorities have yet to find Riley and describe him as a 6-foot, white male, with a muscular build and dark hair. He was last seen wearing a red shirt and black shorts. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call Muskingum County Sheriff’s Department at 452-3637.
