A guilty plea, a pre-sentence investigation and possible criminal charges for other employees at the Muskingum County Home. Wednesday morning, former Home employee Marsha Shumate was in Muskingum County Common Pleas Court. The Sheriff’s Department has investigated Shumate for allegedly stealing large amount of money from the Home between September 28th, 2001 and June 7th of last year. After an initial investigation, Shumate Wednesday plead guilty to one count of theft, a felony of the fifth degree. Also, other charges against more employees are pending. According to her attorney Thomas Payne, by pleading guilty Shumate waives her right to a jury trial. Judge Mark Fleegle issued a pre-sentence investigation into the matter. However Shumate has agreed to assist the Prosecutor’s office in the criminal investigation. Shumate faces a possible community control sentence and full restitution of the money she stole.
