Ohio and North Carolina are arguing again about the Wright Brothers. This time, congressional lawmakers are sparring over which state can claim that it was the ‘birthplace of aviation.’ Ohio congressman Mike Turner sponsored a resolution in congress that honors his hometown of Dayton because that’s where the Wright Brothers grew up, worked, and built their airplane. But three North Carolina lawmakers are opposing the resolution. They say the first flight occurred near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, and that is the true birthplace of aviation. The resolution passed the senate judiciary committee by unanimous consent this morning. It wasn’t immediately clear whether North Carolina senator John Edwards who missed the vote would support or oppose the resolution once it hits the senate floor.
