People carrying cameras and binoculars trooped onto a military base today to celebrate Independence Day with their president. Thousands of people were expected at Wright-Patterson air force base in Dayton to hear president Bush speak on an unused tarmac near the US air force museum. Bush is among several notables helping the Wright Brothers’ hometown kick off its 17-day celebration marking the 100th anniversary of the first flight. Yesterday, guests included former astronauts Neil Armstrong and John Glenn. Other plans include a gathering of hot-air balloons and blimps, an air show and a national aviation hall of fame ceremony featuring pioneers of aviation and space.
