Even though the fourth of July was yesterday, that didn’t stop people in Morgan County from continuing the celebration. The Twin Community Jaycees sponsored events in McConelsville today. Things kicked off this morning with a 5K race followed this afternoon with a parade. Families packed the curbs to get the best view, and maybe a handful of candy tossed by the people in the parade. “We’re on vacation down here,” said Dan Kimmet from Columbus. “We’ve got a place on the river here and the kids were riding horses, and they’re on the horses, riding in the parade.” Earlier tonight there was also karaoke and a fireworks display. This is just one of the events the Jaycees sponsor each year. “We do this for the community,” said Leslie Robbins, Secretary of the Twin Community Jaycees. “We raise money so that we will have further projects for the community with Christmas coming and Thanksgiving. We do scholarships. We try to help out with everybody in our area.” Later on this summer, the Jaycees are also planning a raft regatta. On August second participants can use anything that floats, as long as it’s not a boat.
