A federal investigation leads to local businesses being served with search warrants Thursday. The search began due to the possession and sale of short barrel shot guns and the alleged unlicensed dealing of firearms in our area. According to Detective Steve Jones, with the Zanesville Police Department Narcotics Unit, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms of the Columbus division, executed two federal search warrants to Fell’s Gun Store on Military Road and Y-City Trading Company on Maysville Avenue. Detectives from the ZPD Narcotics Unit assisted. Din Mapley, a resident agent at the Columbus office of ATF says that in connection to the case, an additional search warrant was served last month at a Zanesville home, where six to eight guns were seized. Investigations allege that the stores sold illegal firearms that were reportedly used in area crimes, including a homicide.
